Nose gear strut fairing
I’ve noticed F-GUVV and LN-PFJ have a different kind of nose gear strut fairing than older DA40s. They seem to cover the hinge connecting the strut to the nose gear more completely. Does anyone understand this change, or is it custom.

Re: Nose gear strut fairing
The nose gear fairing (Part number D44-3229-29-00) is part of the OAM 40-345/c "Speed Kit for Landing Gear with 1280kg Landing Mass" for the DA40NG. Some of the "older" DA40NGs have it, the ones delivered since 2019 (like mine) appear to not have it.
I haven't found any information about what speed improvement the option provides.

1280 Kg? I thought that 1200 Kg was the maxi for a DA40.
Have a good day.

Re: Nose gear strut fairing
OK, I ignored it
I think that 1200 Kg is the maxi only for the old Star version like mine.
Initially 1150 Kg and 1200 Kg after performing the modification.
Arnaud.

Re: Nose gear strut fairing
The DA40 and DA40NG have different limitations. The 1280 kg (2822 lbs) landing mass limitation applies to the DA40NG when OAM 40-574 is installed, which appears to be on all the recent DA40NG production airplanes. The maximum takeoff mass limitation for a DA40NG with OAM 40-662 is 1310 kg (2888 lbs), which also appears to be installed on recent production airplanes. Boatguy's and my DA40NGs have both options.
The maximum DA40 take-off mass (Normal Category) is 1150kg and 1200 kg if MAM 40-227 is installed. The maximum landing mass is 1092 kg with the original MLG and 1150 kg with MAM 40-123/e or OAM 40-283 installed.

Re: Nose gear strut fairing
The fairings found on older DA40NG nose and main gear were found to have very little effect on performance, and hence are no longer included. New DA40NGs also have taller landing gear that cause them to sit about an inch higher than planes produced in 2017 or earlier. (It's a little harder to reach the step when climbing in, but IMHO the planes look better with the taller gear.)
The DA40NG weight increase to 1310kg was made possible by adding additional composite structure (an additional rib) inside the fuselage wing stubs near where the main landing gear are attached.
