Hartzell 2 blade composite prop / governor

Post by firedwg1 »

Hi, just wondering if anyone here who removed their hartzell prop ran into a problem with comparability of the prop governor

https://hartzellprop.com/wp-content/upl ... DA40XL.pdf

The Gov. I currently have is made by Avia Propeller and has a MT prop part number P860-23

I’m still awaiting the hartzell stc documents. Oviouslky the document on their website doesn’t state this governor is compatable.

Any thoughts ?

Josh, what are you trying to do? It sounds like you want to change your propeller (from what to what?) while keeping the existing MT governor. I'd be surprised if there is an operational compatibility issue (i.e. something that would cause it not to be able to regulate the set RPM). The STC documents will tell you for sure - at least what prop-governor combinations have been certified.

You can call Hartzell technical support at 800-942-7767 (Option #3) or simply email techsupport@hartzellprop.com.

For those that have MT props, here is a list of approved governors by propeller model number:

I just got stc docs so reviewing them now

The confusing thing is when changing from MT 3 blade composite Configuration to hartzell 2 blade composite, there are two governors called out specially for hartzell. However the MT governor is not called out and is left to Interpretation.

Several in the industry have stated the two blade composite hartzell perfectly compatible with the mt Governor.

When I get the firm answer I’ll post it here.

Ok so here’s the update, hartzell instructions page 3 par 4 has a catch all phrase that basically states

“All propeller governor models that are listed in the FAA type certification A47CE that have a maximum output pressure of 350psi are compatible with the propeller listed in this STC and may be used in lieu of Hartzell S-6-1 governors”.

Hopefully this is useful to someone in the future.

Previous owner changed to Hartzell 2 blade composite some 6 years ago. Retained original Woodward governor. No problems that I ve seen.
Sold 2002. Powerflo, Hartzell composite two blade, 530W/430, 345 transponder.
