Fuel hose - Airworthy?

Post by astaib »

Hello,

As I was looking everywhere in my engine, I noticed a fuel hose that is not looking as the other ones, can you tell me what do you think, is it airworthy or not ?

Thank you!

Arnaud.

Arnaud:

I'm not an A&P, but I've been wrenching on airplanes for 20 years, and work closely with my A&P/IA. I'm not sure if your hose is an Aeroquip or Parker product, but here is what Parker says about indications for replacement:

Based on their criteria, you should replace it. I would assume Aeroquip has similar guidance. The crack shown in your photo is in the molded firesleeve, not the actual hose, so there is probably little chance of it leaking, but...

It is a FUEL hose, and spraying avgas into your engine compartment is not recommended. I just inspected my two oil hose assemblies and the fuel hose, and none of them had any cracks like that, and they are of the same vintage.

I don't think that hose is too expensive - I would replace it.
