Yeah I got the same email this AM. Anyone know how much of a PITA that inspection is? I did check our logs and on 40.648 we did replace the _0 with the _1 part as a result of the AD.

Does anyone know how much that new _2 part costs???

The inspection is no big deal - maybe an hour labor at most. A new NLG leg ran around $2,300 about 10 years ago, but I have no idea what it goes for now...

Since the once blessed -1 leg has now fallen from favor, one wonders whether to replace either the original or a "-1" with the "-2". I could foresee the "-2" at some future time winding up the same way.

We check at each annual. Since I do owner-assisted these days, my IA takes maybe 10 extra minutes to inspect my original and I don't get charged any extra for it.

Unless, of course, it were to fail inspection, which hasn't happened yet, due to my always picture-perfect smoooooth landings on the mains. :D

So I spoke to our Diamond service center in Oshkosh, and the new NLG is available for the low low price of $4234. Seems like the Recurring inspection may be an annoyance I could live with. Schedule that one along with the fuel line AD.

The new part (-2) was quoted for 1800EUR from Diamond Austria today, it is in stock at least in Austria.

That's half as much as the quote Peter got - I wonder what the difference is?

6LU had its NLG Strut replaced this January (2021) due to corrosion at the lower connection point. USD$4,235 + $235 for two Bushings. Add 4 hrs labor and ~$100 for shipping the heavy piece of steel from Canada. This work was done in California at an authorized Diamond Service Center.

Earlier this week I nervously opened my logbooks to make sure the one they installed in January was a _2-MOD. It was. I was lucky that Diamond had one in stock over the holidays. At the time I had gotten the last one. They only had to drill some holes for the fairing (I'm still a bit unclear what they did there), but they did that within two days and shipped the part out ground. Considering all the shipping delays during COVID, I feel fortunate that I managed to get the aircraft back on the line in January.

Since corrosion from moisture can build up in that hard-to-see area, I would also suggest having your mechanic inspect and maintain that connection point properly.
