My 2004 DA40-180 has no such lines or cracks.

Based on reports from newer (than 2001) Star owners, there clearly was a design change sometime after 2001 in the construction of the horizontal stab. Mine has an assembly seam (and rivets), and Arnaud's has the seam, but no visible rivets (even though his is an earlier S/N. They were both manufactured in Austria.
The presence of a seam in the older Stars is not an issue...
