Aviation oil recommendation

Last night there was an EAA Webinar on aviation oils. Mike Busch was the presenter who I respect greatly. In any case he made a recommendation for Phillips XC ( multi or single depending on season )in combination with Camguard if you are using 100LL. I currently use Aeroshell 20-50 half synthetic in combo with Camguard. His point was with leaded fuels synthetics do not carry oil waste very effectively and that can lead to sludge build-up. He also recommended oil changes at least every 50 hours or less. The webinar is probably now posted on EAA. When the new unleaded aviation fuels transition is made he enthusiastically said the switch to 100% synthetics could be made. Just wondering what other folks are doing with their Lycoming
lubrication program. Thanks

I use Aeroshell 15W50 multigrade in addition with Camguard.
Gasoline is 100LL.

I think that sooner or later we will have to use MOGAS Unleaded 98 (E5) in our airplanes as the new taxes will be very expensive (here in France, the country of the taxes).
In this case, I don't know yet what oil to use and how the lyco will behave (the lyco SB allows the M1A to use this fuel, but Diamond didn't certify the M1A for this plane with another fuel than 100LL).

Phillips XC + Camguard. Phillips has a new "Victory AW" 20W50 that contains the additive LW-16702. This is really new and so I'm sure there is not much field experience with it.

I have a friend that raves about how great the Aeroshell 15W50 works in his C150. But he uses lead-free autogas in this plane.

The big deal in oil choice is the effect of periods of inactivity on the cam lobes and lifters, especially for Lycomings. That's what both Camguard and the LW-16702 additive are meant to address.

Since my flying is maybe 50 hours/year I wind up changing oil/filter around 25 hours, or twice a year.

I've always used Exxon Elite 20W50. They are no longer producing that, so I'll have to switch to something else when I use up the two cases I have. My change intervals are similar to Rich's, with good oil analyses, and great looking internals when we split the case about 15 months ago @ approximately 725 hours and 17.5 years in service.

I switched from Aeroshell to Phillips X/C with Camguard. My oil analysis went from very good to great. I fly 50-75 hrs / year and change my oil every 6 months.

I also used to use Exxon Elite 20-50 for years, but recently ran out finally and switched to AS 15-50. Despite the bad voodoo talk about it, it has been around for years with good results for most. I am tempted to switch to the new Phillips Victory, but being as though it's brand new with no track record yet, a bit scared.

Aero shell W100 and camguard. Change oil every 30-40 hours, at least 3 times per year.
