Tire Wear Question

Post by caseyayers »

Hi there,

I had my left main tire replaced a few months ago, given it had clearly developed a flat spot that needed to be addressed. I noticed today that this still-pretty-new tire has some small cracks in the outer tread area. Looking for advice on if this is something I should be worried about or not. Thanks for your perspective!

If groove cracking exposes the belt, then you have to replace the tire. Having said that, there is no way a new tire should crack like that. I wonder if it was a "NOS" tire (New Old Stock) and the rubber compound is dried out. The tire should have a manufacturing date code on the sidewall.

Hey Steve,

Thanks for the response! I think you may have nailed it: this does seem like a "new old stock" issue to me. I'll check the sidewall for a date code next time I'm by the plane and look to address it then.
