DA40 G1000 Most Recent Revision?

Post by midlifeflyer »

This is probably covered in the lengthy "Outdated software" thread but I'm too lazy to wade through that.

Other than the NG, which I think uses the G1000 NXi, what is the DA40's most recent G1000 software and Pilot Guide revision number?

I've searched and I'm not seeing anything newer than 0321.2 for the system software and 190-00324-07 Rev. A for the Pilot's Guide. Anyone here have anything later than that?

Thanks.

For a Lycoming DA40 the latest Legacy G1000 software is 0321.23. You need WAAS GIA63Ws to install it, otherwise non-WAAS GIA63s use 0321.22.

Just run over to any avionics shop. The update is free, but they will charge you to install or supervise you installing it.

It *may* need to be a Garmin Dealer - I'm not sure just any avionics shop has access to download the update kit from the Garmin website...

Mert: Go see the folks at Delta Fox there at Manassas; as a Garmin dealer they should be able to download the loader card software for 0321.23 software for your DA40 XLS; installing that will bring your system up to GDU version 12 functionality (see viewtopic.php?t=7316 ).

Just remind them that after they've loaded 0321.23 that they may have to patch the system (using a laptop connected via USB) to continue to work with your GTX345R ADS-B transponder, since 0321.23 software pre-dated availability of the GTX345R.

Dave, Thanks for the info, Delta Fox completed the upgrade last week, although he had glitches and took more than 4 hours!
The good news is.... I have a lot of approaches back. Such as RNAV GPS 24 @ KROA, and also RNAV GPS 16L @ KHEF.
The bad news is.... ADS-B traffic with N# or Flt.# does not appear on moving map page, only traffic that appears with altitude above or below and direction of travel as it did previously? With one turn of the small knob the ADS-B traffic is displayed on the traffic page, and also is normal on my IPad running Garmin Pilot?
The Delta Fox tech. called Garmin and they say they tested this on there in-house bench system and results were the same! So according to them this is the way it is!
Question for CFI Dave and any others on this thread?? Any other thoughts??
Thanks Mert

A couple of comments to Mert's post. I have the same setup in my 2007 DA40, and I also do not see tail numbers on the moving map, only on the Traffic page, and then only after I turn them on for each flight since that setting doesn't 'stick'.

As far as the missing approaches returning, that is a function of changes to the approach itself, not anything related to the update. I know this because I am based at KROA and noticed the RNAV24 approach here just returned one cycle without any changes on my part. The reason that approach, and several other RNAV approaches, had been missing from our G1000's is because they were published with no vertical descent angle. On the approach plate, you would see the words "Descent angle NA", and this caused the approach to be coded with a zero for the descent angle. G1000 GDU version 13.0 and above handled this situation, but our ancient software versions did not, so our G1000's would refuse to load these approaches. The FAA has since changed most of these approaches over time to remove the "Descent angle NA" language, and this causes the database coding for the approach to change such that the G1000 will now load them.
