arizona baffle
Sorry, I searched through the postings but could not find a specific answer as to when the Arizona baffle was standard equipment on the DA40. I just purchased a 2003 (40.275) & when I took it out this morning, I found I had to run pretty rich to keep the CHT below 400 - I was a little busy & did not check each cylinder. Any guidance on what the cost is in the US for parts & installation? It appears that the original baffle was about 8cm in diameter & the new one is about 10cm? I'll go look at my plane to see what I can tell.

Holt - I have 40.277 and it wasn't on mine. It was installed before I bought the plane so unfortunately I don't know the pricing. Bernie

We had the baffle installed very early on - about 11 months after taking delivery. As I recall, Diamond did not charge for the part, but we paid for installation (not an unholy expense). Of course, the plane was still under warranty.

Hi Holt,
I wanted to do the same as you (and wrote a topic about that on this forum).
I finally changed my front right baffle + all the seals.
The ref of the Arizona Baffle is D41-7166-11-00/02.
It costs roughly 620 dollars.
I ordered it to Premiere Aviation in FL to Brittany Glassman (brittany.glassman@flypas.com), she knows very well that topic.
I was lucky because Diamond just finished to make one (they do it manually and it takes some weeks to do it).
The result is perfect, now my CHT are perfect.
Question: Did you try to run LOP with the original baffle? This is what I did before changing it, and it was working pretty OK, but speed was lower and the CHT were not as low as they are now.
Do you also notice that cyl #1 is the hottest one?

I took a picture of my right intake. I coudnt take a picture while holding the measuring tape, but the diameter is about 10cm. Its kind of ugly & the seal doesnt appear to be in good shape. Thoughts? TIA!

Looks like the AZ baffle to me, but can't be sure without measurement. The 102 mm measurement is of the hole cut in the cowling. One thing for sure, the hole in yours (irrespective of size) wasn't cut that way at the factory. Here are a few of mine (hole was enlarged freehand with a Dremel):

The field installations can look a bit ugly, with the opening typically being done freehand. Mine is not exactly super-pristine, either.
The main symptom of the lack of the Arizona baffle was #1 CHT being considerably higher than the other 3. Seeing the CHT temp profile would help with advice. I recently found a problem with #4 CHT reading being high caused by the positioning of the SCAT tubing that runs below the right side cylinders and cools the battery compartment.
As part of the installation, the interior flexible baffle strips mounted to the new rigid piece were also reinstalled/replaced. You might look at the condition of these.

Yeah, I thought it kind of looked like the AZ baffle, but there's nothing in the logbooks that I can find. Next time I take it out I'll do some careful monitoring of the various CHTs. I need someone to go with me - in the San Diego area you really have to look outside the plane!

After buying my 2002 DA40, I too was surprised by the CHTs with 500 rpm climbs in moderate weather temps.
So I pursued both the PowerFlow + Arizona Baffle option to address this CHT and performance issue. I could not have invested better money.
My AP was initially not getting the best feedback from Diamond as to when we might be able to secure an Arizona Baffle Kit, but when we asked PowerFlow to see if they could help with Diamond, the part arrived pretty quickly.
So I pursued both the PowerFlow + Arizona Baffle option to address this CHT and performance issue. I could not have invested better money.
