DA40 Aviation Consumer Article
In the issue received today. Brock got lots more than his 2 cents in
All in all, a really fair article. It included some of the dirty laundry about the G1000 issues. He didn't cover all the nuances to be found with various mods and upgrades, but there's only so much space for the article. And Brock covered some for him.
Once more the stellar safety record comes up, with special mention about crashworthiness.

Yes, it was an honest assessment by Brock and a job well done. He also makes some insightful comments about the G1000 and is a must read for any DA owner, regardless of model.

Re: DA40 Aviation Consumer Article
Nice article, but the graph showing DA40 value depreciation showed only two of the most rare DA40s that are virtually unavailable in the used market:
- a 2000 model year plane for $85K (I've never seen a 2000 DA40 for sale, very few were produced before 2001)
- a 2005 DA40F (cheaper model with fixed pitch prop with carbureted engine targeted at flight schools; only about a dozen were built)
It would have been much better to graph the value of typical fuel-injected G1000 DA40 -- many of which are "appreciating assets" that now sell for almost their original (when new) sales price.
The article also erroneously stated that it's not possible to display ADS-B weather on the G1000. That's only true for earlier non-WAAS G1000 DA40s produced up through 2007. DA40s running .23 G1000 software can all display ADS-B weather on the MFD.
But I loved the sidebar where Aviation Consumer usually provides an analysis of the most common accident types by the featured aircraft. For the DA40 accident analysis sidebar, the title was "DA40 Accidents: What Accidents?"

Clearly the magazine should have asked you to edit before publishing.

A letter to AC to make those points would share that information with a wider audience.

Re: DA40 Aviation Consumer Article
The price graph over time, coupled with the weekly letters that I receive seeking to buy my plane, along with the virtual absence of DA40s listed for sale, made me want to ask where I could find the planes used to create the graph.

Re: DA40 Aviation Consumer Article
I also have never seen a 2000 model for sale, although I did get to fly a demonstrator in 2001 that was a 2000 model. I get sales solicitations a couple of times a week for my 2001 model, but I guess that they are part of mass mailings based on the FAA aircraft registration database, rather than specifically directed at my ‘legacy’ model.

Re: DA40 Aviation Consumer Article
It does refer to this and WAAS problems being a factor in "early" G1000's without fleshing out details of which of the dizzying (to me) array of model year/software/hardware combinations could do what.
