ADSB upgrade issues....
The install of the GTX345R in my 2004 DA40 nonwaas was just completed and am working out some kinks. During the install the shop called and said they couldn’t find the audio channel. I mentioned I had TIS-B with audio, but they couldn’t find it, and better yet, after three calls to Garmin, the jokers who built the system didn’t know where the audio channel was either (what?)! How can the designers of a system not know where this stuff is? BTW, this is the fourth DA40 this shop has done and they found the audio channel in the other planes. After the shop got fed up with Garmin, they installed a separate audio channel requiring them to pull out the whole interior. Besides that, I now seem to get an intermittent Pitot fail.
I’m wondering what problems you folks have had getting the 345 installed in a DA40, and did you experience this audio channel issue. My install cost 9200 and took 5 days.

The audio channel from the TAS600 is re-purposed to be the audio for the GTX345R. If you don't have the TAS600, then the solution would be to run a new wire.

Re: ADSB upgrade issues....
I too just had the 345R installed. Got the plane back last Thursday. I have along with the paperwork some of their wiring drawings. For the audio they had to fish a line from the rear to the front. Didn't seem like a big deal. They were able to pull the wire without removing the front seats. Just opened the hatch under the seat cushion and pulled it through. I've only flown the return flight and haven't had time to play with the new system. Not yet sure what works besides the traffic screen. Haven't yet seen traffic on the map screen.

This is one of my main questions...I have the TAS600, but they (and Garmin) couldn’t locate the audio channel. After a few hours of frustration, the shop gave up on Garmin tech and ran a line. Hoping any TAS600 and GTX integration isn’t effected by it.

Re: ADSB upgrade issues....
Sounds like what they did for me. I have yet to experiment with mine as well. Would enjoy hearing any issues or lessons learned from you as you get to know your system.BRS wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2019 10:28 pm I too just had the 345R installed. Got the plane back last Thursday. My shop knew exactly which pin it was on the TAS600 and just easily moved it to the GTX audio line. The TAS600 wiring diagrams are readily available.

Re: ADSB upgrade issues....
I have to correct myself. I don’t have the TAS600, but I had TIS-B from the GTX33 transponder the plane was originally built with. The TIS-B had an audio channel for traffic alerts. That’s what they couldn’t find, if that is the experience anyone else had.

Re: ADSB upgrade issues....
If you download the DA40-180 Aircraft Maintenance Manual PDF from the Diamond website, you'll find all of the electrical schematics at the very end of the manual. Surprisingly (despite the G1000 being added to the DA40 via an STC) the G1000 wiring diagrams are included. It's then not very difficult to find all of the audio channels and pinouts.

Re: ADSB upgrade issues....
Thanks Dave, I have them downloaded and will look into that.
After experimenting with the plane today, some issues....if anyone else experienced these also.....
Pitot Off caution on the PFD is present all the time unless the Pitot heat is on. Never saw that message before. Couldn’t find any settings to make it go away.
Am not seeing any traffic on the mfd, and for that matter, I don’t even have a Traffic Map screen anymore in the Map Chapter. I still have map and terrain and wx, but no traffic page.

Re: ADSB upgrade issues....
That was always true in my DA40 and continues to be true in my DA42. I wish that it, instead, watched the OAT and when it was below the threshold you set THEN it would alert you. I would probably put it at 46F, but I am a little paranoid about icing and think it can sneak up on me.Pitot Off caution on the PFD is present all the time unless the Pitot heat is on.
