Folks-
there has been some talk about these tests on the forum. Below I provide my latest test. Note that I ran this test at about 60-65 per cent power so that the process of leaning thru areas that are ROP but close to peak does not pose a detonation risk.
I highly recommend that you do these tests. I took the Advanced Pilot Seminar from Brally et al (still available on-line) and learned a ton of stuff about this.
I do not have GAMI injectors as my stock IO-360 appears to have a very well-balanced mixture distribution over cylinders.

Re: GAMI test
I did the GAMI test as well. GAMI said we don’t need the injectors because of well balanced fuel distribution, but we can’t get our plane to run smoothly lean of peak. Waiting for the next annual in a month to tweak the mags and anything else we can to figure it out.

Re: GAMI test
If your cylinders are all peaking at the same time, the next step (help) is to switch to fine wire plugs, then to an electronic ignition. Notice the progression of costs (tuned injectors, New plugs, EI).Roxi5m9 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2019 1:31 pm I did the GAMI test as well. Re: GAMI tests
I did the GAMI test on my DA40 and could just NOT get to to go lean of peak at the limits they were suggesting. I took John Deakin up for a ride and he fiddled with it. He made my little Lycoming burp, cough, sputter, and generally sound like a go kart engine. He said he couldn't get it either and that I probably had an induction leak. My mechanic could find it and I gave up.
Deakin said, "Don't worry, these little four bangers are bulletproof." Ten hours later a magneto died on approach into ABQ.
