Re: Path to ADS-B & WAAS for older DA40s
I *love* the flight plan transfer feature to iPad finally enabled on my G1000 NXi with FS510 card. Every time I get vectored by ATC and turn the heading knob to a new course, it automatically shows up on my iPad. Use of the iPad for entering flight plan changes literally makes the expensive keypad option on the DA62 seem like a waste of money.

How about frequency changes and the functions of the FMS knob? Do you find yourself using the keypad or the knobs on the panel?

I find it faster and easier to just turn the knobs on the PFD/MFD to enter new frequencies, rather than to use the keypad. One of the challenges with the keypad is you first have make sure it's in the right "mode" before hitting any keystrokes.

Not quite as tightly coupled to my Bronze-age GNS units + FS210, as they don't participate in vectoring. But anything that gets changed in one flight plan will transfer to the other. Though the GNS unit is somewhat "protected" in that sending from iPad to the 530W requires conscious action by the pilot.CFIDave wrote: ↑Mon Sep 07, 2020 7:09 pm I *love* the flight plan transfer feature to iPad finally enabled on my G1000 NXi with FS510 card. Where do I locate my GDU software version? I find a lot of software and system numbers in the AUX page, but nothing labelled GDU software version? (I'm renewing my G1000 package, and am trying to figure out whether I can improve on the the 30 arc second terrain in my 2005 DA40)

On the G1000 go to the AUX Page Group (large knob) and select the AUX-SYSTEM STATUS page (small knob) where you normally check database versions.
On the left side of this page is a scrollable list of all your LRUs (Line Replaceable Units) with the serial numbers and software versions of each LRU. Scroll down until you see GDU1 or GDU2 (PFD or MFD) and read their software versions.
With a 2005 DA40 the 30 arc second terrain database is what you want. You don't need the 9 arc second terrain unless you have the Synthetic Vision option installed, and then your original SDcards in the bottom slots may be too small to hold the larger 9 arc second files (you might have to go from -42 cards to -43 Garmin SDcards, or use larger 3rd party blank SDcards).

Mine shows 12.05 for both the PFD and the MFDCFIDave wrote:On the G1000 go to the AUX Page Group (large knob) and select the AUX-SYSTEM STATUS page (small knob) where you normally check database versions.
