Re: Corked Nose Wheel
Hello all,
Just received my Bretfin and installed it.
Unfortunately, due to the forward position of the front screw, I wasn’t able to align the trailing edge of the fin with the bottom of the wheel fairing. I made in order to have the upper edge of the fin horizontal.
-> Do you think it is problematic?
I also didn’t centered the fin in order to align it on the separation of the to halves fairing. I offset the fin a bit in order to have the screws centered on the base of the fin.
The fin looks vertically ok.
Please check the pictures attached and give me a feedback.
Thanks.

I think it looks fine and will work. Further aft just means a little more leverage. Take it up and find out!

Arnaud, That placement is fine and should work well. Remember the trim tab on the rudder. you may have to adjust the tab from your stock position.

Re: Corked Nose Wheel
Hello, I bought the plane when he was 18 years old, so I guess that it has been touched several times. Additionally I bent it too.
To make a long story short: I don’t know the stock position !

Re: Corked Nose Wheel
I just removed my trim tab altogether when I added the fin, and that was perfect for my plane. That also makes it easy to "go back" to the previous configuration by simply removing the fin and reattaching the trim tab, if needed. My DA40 now flies straight every flight with no more constant rudder pressure required.

Re: Corked Nose Wheel
My IA was uncomfortable with removing the tab altogether since control surfaces are sometimes quite sensitive to seemingly minor weight changes. Probably not an issue, but... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
So we just fabricated a flat aluminum tab of the same size and thickness, which was really straightforward.

Re: Corked Nose Wheel
Better than explaining what those 4 holes are doing there with nothing attached I found it no big deal to just eyeball-straighten the tab and it has been the perfect setting in combination with the fin.Chris B wrote: ↑Mon Nov 22, 2021 3:00 pmMy IA was uncomfortable with removing the tab altogether since control surfaces are sometimes quite sensitive to seemingly minor weight changes. Re: Corked Nose Wheel
Yeah, I suppose now that I know 'nothing' is the right correction, I should straighten mine out too and put it back. Originally I didn't want to mess with it so I could easily undo the fin if it didn't work out. Possibly making a new straight tab would be the best alternative to keep everything "as is".

Hello,
Shall I also remove the tab on the aileron? Or straigthen it?
I'm flying with the left wing down (before the fin installation).
Arnaud.

No. Leave the aileron tab alone.
