The disappearance was one that was not bonded in place - just stayed in place mysteriously. Since I bonded one in it’s stayed in place.

I believe that's covered by Murphy's Law.
I always keep a spare set of those points just for jacking - put them on the jack tube to protect the one glued to the plane from getting all beat up.
