Re: 2003 DA40 - key blank
One fuel cap was replaced a few years ago, as the latching mechanism failed. The new cap came with not only a different lock, but a different key blank profile altogether. I almost never lock the caps, but I keep one of each key inside the plane, should I wish to do so.Steve wrote:Rich: Your fuel caps are keyed differently on each side?Rich wrote:Fortunately for me I have numerous ignition/door keys and a truly ridiculous number of keys or one of the fuel caps, though only 2 for the other one

Re: 2003 DA40 - key blank
My DA40NG came with two ignition keys, but I wanted extras. It looks pretty much like the key in a 60's era BMW. The local shops, even the one everyone said would have anything, couldn't match it.
In any case, Diamond couldn't source blanks, but did tell me it was a Bosch E-series key and gave me a link to a shop in the UK. It turns out there are only 100 variations of a Bosch E-series and the number on the key is the variant.
The UK shop was excellent: https://www.replacementkeys.co.uk/bosch ... -keys.html
I ordered online, providing the E## from my original key. Two keys were $15USD including shipping, arrived in the mail about a week later and work perfectly.

I too used ACE Hardware for the canopy and ignition key. Still having problems finding fuel cap key blanks ... I’m going to try having someone 3D print some fuel cap spares.

Just out of curiosity... Why would you lock your fuel caps? Seems like a lot of trouble to go through, considering most airports have cameras everywhere nowadays

Locking them doesn't prevent theft of fuel (there is no lock for the sump drain), but it makes it a *little* bit harder and keeps people from putting things IN your fuel tank.

Re: 2003 DA40 - key blank
True- think about the fact you can't reach the majority of the fuel from the filler caps anyway (there are baffles inside each cell). If you're pretty full some could be siphoned off this way but not nearly all. The drains are the only way to fully get at all of it, albeit really slowly. When I lock mine (rarely) it's more of a concern over possible undetectable vandalism.
If you think the majority of ramp space is covered by security cameras and gated access, you haven't been to a lot of the airports I routinely visit.

Re: 2003 DA40 - key blank
I have a 2003 DA40. My aft door has a different key than the front or ignition. I have been to numerous places trying to copy it but was told that it appears “European” and hard to copy in the USA. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Thanks

If your rear door key is a "Euro Locks" key with a number on it, you can order the specific key from the following URL - https://www.easykeys.com/LoweFletcher.aspx.
If your ignition key is a double sided ACS key, you can order blanks for them from Aircraft Spruce at the following URL and have them cut at any key shop - https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/ ... tches5.php
I just did this for my 2010 DA40 XLS.
I have not however found a source for the gas cap key but in my case I never lock the gas caps anyway.

The fuel caps at least if our DA40D are produced by Newton Equipment Deutschland , e-mail info@newton-equipment.de.
I had ordered o-ring sealings directly. I am sure, they can help with keys.
