S-Tec 3100 autopilot STC for the DA40
Some of us have DA40s that came from the factory without an autopilot and no STC exists to add an aftermarket unit.
However S-Tec would be willing to get an STC for their 3100 Digital Autopilot for the DA40 provided that they could secure 15 orders. The system seems to be priced at about 16k with all the servos. http://genesys-aerosystems.com/products ... rol-system
I would definitely order one and I would be willing to lend them my plane for the certification. Perhaps this could also be an interesting upgrade for owners of DA40s equipped with KAP-140 A/Ps?
Who's interested?

That is an insanely cheap price. Even at $20k it would be a bargain and certainly money you would get back out of the plane when you sold it.

Wait: this is hardware only. Install will be a big ticket I think.

Maybe. For 30k all in, I'm still a buyer. Potentially even at 40k.

Re: S-Tec 3100 autopilot STC for the DA40
Would it work with the steam gauge AI, turn coordinator and King HSI found on the 2002-03 DA40's or would an digital AHRS like a G500 or Aspen be required? Thanks.

Re: S-Tec 3100 autopilot STC for the DA40
Based on this brochure, it seems to accept inputs from G500, Aspen, "HSI" and "DG", so it seems like it would work with a King HSI. Also, because it is attitude-based and not rate-based, it doesn't require a turn coordinator.

Re: S-Tec 3100 autopilot STC for the DA40
As I understand it, the HSI/DG provides course guidance to the autopilot, but it also needs "attitude" input to provide its orientation. The G500/Aspen provide the latter. I doubt the mechanical AI has any capability to output such guidance. It's possible the S-TEC 3100 could have it's own internal AHRS, but if not it will need a source for attitude guidance such as the G500/Aspen. I'm afraid I'd need to know the answer before considering indicating interest, especially if the prices being suggested also require, at a minimum, the Aspen. (The Garmin G5 AI (with AHRS)/G500 Autopilot, neither of which is STCed for the DA40, is around 8K I think).

Re: S-Tec 3100 autopilot STC for the DA40
I think that question should be asked to the manufacturer. But I would bet there is an AHRS in the AP. It is attitude-based yet can apparenently work with just a DG, which can only be done with an internal AHRS.

No idea. Tell you what, I will assemble all the questions from this thread and forward them to the manufacturer. That goes for the HSI question above as well.
Any other questions, anyone?
