DA40 AMM anti-corrosion instructions

Post by linzhiming »

Diamond has finally published some DA40 anti-corrosion instructions for exposed parts in the following amendment to the DA40 AMM:

Based on experience with corrosion issues with different DA40s, anti-corrosion protection is definitely something that someone should apply.

Thanks Wolfgang! I'm going into my annual next week so this is very timely.

It seems Diamond has finally recognized that they used inferior hardware. This is one of my biggest complaints with this airframe. Now if they would only specify products that were readily available to deal with this problem.

I have just done a search and seems that at least Ardrox AV 30 and Cor-Ban 35 are reasonably readily available in the US and not at any exorbitant prices:

http://www.skygeek.com/zip-chem-004675- ... 12-oz.html

I did a quick search that they can also be found in the UK and even here in Singapore.

My MRO had generally used LPS-3 (http://www.lpslabs.com/product-details/612), which works well too, and we applied it to many of the areas that were listed in the AMM insert.

Many of the areas that the AMM insert is listing definitely need anti-corrosion protection as borne out by previous experience and it lists a few more which have not been a problem for my aircraft so far.

Thank you Wolfgang. It is comforting to have this list to replace my amateur guessing. It looks like the instructions amount to inspect and replace upon detection of loss of protection or outright corrosion. I note that you appear to have found signs of corrosion in your inspections. I have not. At how many hours and/or how much time outside in damp weather did your signs first appear?
