Waypoint altitudes on MFD Flt Plan page

Post by 40flyer »

I have a 2005 non-WAAS DA40. When entering a list of waypoints on the MFD Flt Plan page there is no column to show corresponding altitudes for procedure waypoints. The G1000 simulator shows these. I have the 321.22 software. Is this correct? Is there an upgrade that would provide this info?

I have ver 321.23 and I do not believe there is an altitude field for user waypoints. TOnly published procedures have altitude constraints.

Lou,
I'm not talking about user-created waypoints. My flight manual shows an Alt field (column) on the right side of any Flt Plan created on the MFD, whether a simple waypoint or waypoints from a procedure with specified altitudes. I have no Alt field ever.

When you select a Flight Plan page VIEW on the MFD, are altitudes missing in both Narrow and Wide formats? In either case, actual altitudes should only show up for approach or arrival-related waypoints; otherwise they're blank (i.e., multiple underlines followed by FT).

I will take a screen shot and post here. I don't see an Alt field in either view, wide or narrow.

Indeed there should be an altitude field, and you can manually enter a vnav target for any waypoint, including user created ones. It might be the sw version you have. I believe I have the 321.23, and have no WAAS, so while I use this feature all the time for descent planning, the AP will not fly it for me. The flight director does, however, still give you top of descent on map, and a VSI / artificial glideslope target you can follow.

Somewhat related...on my MFD the step down altitudes for an IAP are shown, but they often don't match the published altitudes on the IAP. Thoughts?

Tim:
The step down altitudes for an IAP as displayed on the FPL page in the MFD should match what's on your approach charts. Perhaps your charts or your NavData file (loaded in the G1000) aren't current, and hence don't match. Otherwise there's a very small probability that Jepp/Garmin could have potentially messed up the way they coded these IAP altitudes in the NavData file.

Don,

Does your 2005 have the GFC700 autopilot, or the KAP140? Most likely, the KAP140. The simulator software has the GFC700, with VNAV. even if you have the GFC700, dose it have the VNV button (see below)? If not, it doesn't have the VNAV feature. The Garmin G1000 simulator software has all the bells and whistles. I'm betting the column you are referring to for altitude constraints for each waypoint is only available with the VNAV option (which I also don't have, so I can't really say for sure!).

Or maybe I just misunderstood the question...

Rick, I do not have WAAS, and hence do not have the VNV button, even though I have the GFC700. But I still have all the VNAV features including the step down altitudes and the alt fields on the flight plan pages. The only thing I can't do/don't have, is the ability to have the AP fly the VNAV profile for me--for that you need the VNV button.
