G1000 SD-Cards wont release
My MFD data card started to be difficult to release some time ago. The PDF-Card starts to do the same. I can push them in, but they won't come out easily without a lot of fiddling with toothpicks.
Any one had a similar issue - and how did you resolve it.
I don't know whether it is the cards (Originals) or the G1000 card slots.

Re: G1000 SD-Cards wont release
Hi Gerhard, I find that it depends on the card since they are not "machined" to the finest specifications Some cards are better than others, and I end up not using the ones that get stuck. Also, they may degrade a bit which could explain a card that no longer fits well. Finally, temperature may play a role -- but this is just a guess.
Best,

Re: G1000 SD-Cards wont release
We have the same issue on the top slot of our MFD. A card can work fine in the PFD but get stuck in the MFD. It just takes some patience and finagling to get it to come out, so we haven't tried to do anything about it yet.

Re: G1000 SD-Cards wont release
Well in the beginning I could get the SD card out again with toothpicks. Now it is fiddling around sometimes for an hour, which is unacceptable, given they need to be updated every 14 days (Jeppesen Charts). 4 GB SD cards are hard to get and the question is, whether it would make things better with new cards or whether it is a problem of the card slot(s).

Anyone bought the new Adaptor SD cards from Garmin with 8 GB storage?

Re: G1000 SD-Cards wont release
Hi Gerhard -
Cold temps seem to make the card reader release mechanism sluggish. The most helpful tip for me has been from the G1000 System Maintenance Manual: carefully use a small flat blade screwdriver to catch the molded slot on the left side of the card. As long as the card is unlatched (by pressing in), *gently* pulling with a small screwdriver seems to pop the card right out.

Note that Garmin specifically recommends SanDisk cards.G1000 System Maintenance Manual, section 5.7.1: 'GDU 104X Common Problems' wrote:
SD card is stuck in GDU
- DO NOT insert a screwdriver of any length into the card slot.
- DO NOT pry against the overlay.
- DO NOT force the SD Card out.
- Insert a small screwdriver in the groove on the side of the exposed end of the card to pull out the card.
- Push the card in further to release the card locking mechanism.
- Check SD Card for having more than one label. Two or more labels on the card will cause sticking. Remove all but one label.
- Ensure the SD card is from SanDisk. Use of other SD Cards is not recommended.
- If card was inserted with the label facing to the right, do not attempt to remove. Return the unit to Garmin for repair.

Hi Gerhard -gsontheimer wrote:Anyone bought the new Adaptor SD cards from Garmin with 8 GB storage?
No, but for our vintage G1000 (early WAAS) 8 GB SanDisk 'Ultra' cards (formatted in FAT32) work great. For back-up, of course.
FWIW, my understanding is that earlier vintage G1000s are limited to 4 GB cards.
The 8 GB SanDisk cards also have an improved locking mechanism design which is much harder to accidentally engage. If you unwittingly insert a 'locked' card into the slot, it cracks the card. DAMHIKT
