DA40D - First 300 hour Thielert service due
Hi,
We're up to the first 300 hours on the Centurion 2.0 in just under 30 hours from now.
I was under the impression that only the gearbox and possibly clutch was up for factory inspection at 300 hours, but the shop his written up just about everything as due; fuel pumps, alternator, etc. I thought these items were 600 hour items.
The engine was installed in 2007. (and had its 5-year service done last year before we bought the aeroplane)
Any advice on what to expect and how to minimise impact and cost? Not keen to just write the shop a blank cheque and let them take care of it, obviously!
Cheers,
Bas.

on a 2.0 centurion engine the alternators, high pressure pumps are not due until 600 hrs. at 300 should only be normal 100 inspection for engine and gearbox and clutch.
i would not write blank check to shop and see where they are getting the idea that these other things need replacement.

Good Morning,
The HP pumps had to be changed due to an AD, maybe that was the reason at yours? Had the same on our DA40TDi this week! After I pick it up, I let you know in detail what we did!
2007 and only 300hrs?
Best regards,

Hi Michael,
The recent AD didn't apply to us, only if you used a specific type of fuel used in parts of Europe.
The (troublesome in the Australian heat) 1.7 was replaced in 2007 by a 2.0 at 923 hours. I think Thielert wanted it back; the owner at the time didn't pay too much I don't think. But he never ended up getting his own PPL and it only got hired out occasionally. We bought it in Oct '13 with only 80 hours on the engine, shortly after he did the 5 year service.
Cheers,
Bas.

hi,
Check this: http://www.tmg-service.de/doc-download/ ... ev%201.pdf
I am afraid this is also valid in Australia!

Hmmm, looks like I was misinformed. How much are they charging for that one? Full price, not the "pre-inspected" price?
Have you done any gearbox and/or clutch changes yet? How much did they end up costing for you?
Cheers,
Bas.

Re: DA40D - First 300 hour Thielert service due
Have you got your quote yet? We just got our: gearbox + clutch + feed pump and the installation kits that go with it comes to €4283 + shipping.
The shop quotes around 16 hours for the entire job.
It is the new design gearbox with cooling hose connections; the one rumoured to eventually go to 600 hours. Fingers crossed!
We're going ahead with this in the next few weeks.

Hi Michael,
Did you order a pre-inspected gearbox, or did yours go to Thielert for inspection and then back?
Regards,
Bas.
