Any news of the Panthera from Aero Friedrichshafen?

Not much that I have found. There is a link on Pipistrel's FaceBook page that takes you to the Pipistrel's website with an announcement that the Panthera would be on display at Aero Friedrichshafen with an IO-540 in it.

Nothing more unfortunately. I would have thought they'd be pushing it more than they are.
I would truly love to read a comparison between it and the forthcoming DA50. It would be wonderful to have a little more choice in aircraft. The Panthera certainly had my attention although diesel would be my first choice. Still...

I should have a web page where I collect all these planes that seem amazing but I don't think I will ever see fly. There's an amphib (Lisa?) that is like a DA40 gliding across the water on hydrofoils. I love every second of video they shoot of it. I don't think I'll ever see one in the wild.

Re: Has anyone already placed an order for a Panthera?
My perception of the Panthera.
- Vision: a beautiful aircraft from a successful relaive newcomer that wants to disrupt the GA scene by providing unmatched aerodynamic efficiency. 10 GPH at 200 knots with 4 on board...
- Reality check: the prototype falls short of the vision by more than 20 knots. Initial climb also seems to be subpar.
- Reaction: put a bigger engine into the concept, increase MTOW to accommodate the increase in empty weight and the additional fuel.
And then someone must have asked a few prospects: would you buy THIS or an SR22...
End of the story?
What happened to the Italian factory?
What can Diamond Canada learn from this?

... or they could make kits and sell them into the US homebuilt market. That could work...

Yeah, I remember those billionaires that have made their fortune in the aircraft kit market.
Come to think of it, the billionaire that started Ikea should make a flat pack airplane.

They should have no problem getting the 200 kts. out of the IO-540 ROP. The fuel burn will probably closer to 16 gal. hr. If they can hold the pricing projected they will destroy Cirrus.Rick wrote:A little more information here: http://www.flyingmag.com/panthera-evolv ... tion-nears
There's a reason you don't see a diesel on this plane. You would never get to the target speeds or useful loads with a diesel.

Tommy, your last statement is at least questionable. If you compare the IO-540 (depending on the version 250hp @ 217kg weight) with for instance the CD230 (230hp @ 204kg), you see, that there is no big difference. The lower power consumption gives further advantages.
