New knobs for G-1000
Just wondered if anyone has had reason to replace any of the knobs on their G-1000, specifically the Range knob. The knob on my MFD cracked a few weeks ago. It is just a "push on" knob over the shaft that goes inside the unit. I checked with the local avionics shop and they said that Garmin only sells the "set", meaning all knobs for the G-1000, not just an individual knob. And, of course, they only want $120 for the set. If anyone finds a different source, would you let me know.

About $5 cheaper here

But that's about it. $120 includes a full set of knobs for ONE screen only.
Had to replaced cracked range and small fms knobs on mfd and changed anything used-looking on both screens while I was at it.

Yep, I had to buy a 120 dollar knob. I figure I will have the rest for later.

Re: New knobs for G-1000
Pretty typical practice for replacement parts of this nature. Other than helping us (the consumer) by allowing us to buy individual knobs for $20 the manufacturers figure they can maximize profits by packaging all of them and making us pay $120 for the set in order to get the one piece we need. I recall having a broken trim ring around a car vent (which was a separate piece) and could not purchase it separately. I had to buy the whole vent in order to get the trim piece.

Every home should have a 3D printer someday soon. That way we can make our own parts on demand.

...or set up our own Parts Exchange. If someone has to buy a set when they only need one, maybe we could have a searchable database of spares...
I've got spares of most of the metric hardware for a DA40...

Do you have a source for metric hardware outside of Diamond?

Second that, don't have the name of the company I ordered from handy, but there's a big vendor I got metric screws for the light lense and metric rivnuts from.
