AoA Indicator

Post by Scotsman58 »

I came across the following article:

http://www.aopa.org/members/files/pilot ... onics.html

Apparently, the FAA has decided that putting in an Alpha Systems AoA indicator and probe is a "minor" alteration that is not too big a hassle.

Anyone put one of these into a DA40? I might imagine that the composite wing presents some challenges for the probe installation.

Actually, should be easy. Just mount in an access hole instead of one of the cover plates. But, to answer your question directly, I havent seen one yet.

For Cirrus aircraft there is a mounting plate that repaces one of the covers:

There is no such thing for a DA40, to my knowlege.

I poked around to see if there was any available plate on the DA40 that one could reasonable replace with the mount for one of these There really is a dearth of inspection plates in the wing outside the propwash. The ones at the fuel tank junctions would be the best candidates but there's no room inside.

I'd love to have one of these installed but I don't think it'd be a minor deal on a DA40.

My airplane has the Aspen display. The magnetometer has been removed and that is where I will put the probe.
