Same here. Tight fit, but, if you paint guide lines it's pretty much a no brainer.
With snow and ice you just have to be a little bit more careful.
No problem man. 8-)

Congrats Tim!

Let me know when you get her back to DFW as I would love to come take a look!

Our DA40 is based at KFTW Ft Worth Meacham and and KGDJ Granbury. At the Granbury airport we have a hangar that is 41 ft wide and slightly uphill into the hangar. Getting the airplane into this space by myself is quite a challenge. I am working on an electric wench solution with a remote control to pull the airplane into the hangar but- so far 'no joy'. The hangar door is wide enough for the airplane, but pretty intimidating looking from the 'propeller view' in front of the airplane.

The previous owner of my DA40 had a 40' door. Cost him at least 5 strobe lights, based on the logs.

Although we have a 60' hangar now, we have squeezed our DA40 into a hangar that was 40'6" for a period of time. I would love to say that the solution is simple... just get a bigger hangar, but in some areas they just aren't available (or affordable).

Using an iTowbot (http://www.tracetowbots.com/) made it simple as you could move "dead slow" while standing at a wingtip. Doing it manually was a touchy job!

No strobe lights were harmed, but there were some close calls to be sure.

How you use the Towbot with the fairing at the nose gear? We do have one as well but it is not fitting the DA40 nose wheel. In fact I never tried. Thomas

There is a model specific for faired gear - http://www.tracetowbots.com/products/wheel-pant-towbot - however we had the wheel fairings off when we were using it.

This unit is one of the best most compact, controllable and user-friendly units I have ever seen.
It's available for the DA40 as well as the DA 42. It is also not cheap. I do not have one because I do not have a 42 or need one to move my 40. However, if I did need a mechanical device to move my plane, this is what I would use hands down.

Do you know what the new canopy cost? I am 6'4" and have the "old" style canopy. It would be nice to have a few extra inches.

N704PA was gently put to bed last night in her new home at KRBD where we fond a 45' wide hangar at Jet Center of Dallas. Two of our partners flew her back from the factory yesterday with stops in Port Huron for Customs clearance, then BMG-ARG-TXK-RDB. Whew. My mission profile is mainly here in Texas and a few trips a year to adjoining states so it may be awhile before I attempt an adventure like that. The really good news is that our 6'5" partner was so comfortable with the headroom of the "bubble" canopy (standard on the XLS) that he is even thinking about buying a headset with a headband (he has been wearing earbuds).
