Re: ACK 406 MHz ELT Update
My new ACK 406 ELT arrived this afternoon. Surprisingly big box. Anyone know what batteries it takes?

Did you wire it for GPS from the G1000. If not, do you plan to do so?

Em. Not sure what to do with it. Was going to give it to a mechanic and then write a check. You mean there are decisions to be made? :0

Re: ACK 406 MHz ELT Update
OK, read the installation instructions. Definitely want to connect the unit to the G1000. I wonder how many mechanic hours this will take and can I offer some owner assistance hours. Once uncrated, the packaging is quite small.
I was amused to read that ACK is based in San Jose and in fact within walking distance of our house. We practically went past it when driving to see Harry Potter 7 this afternoon.

I got my "big" box the other day. I had the shop send me the batteries ($15 ea.). They are:
ELT Remote - Lithium Duracell 28L or PX28L 6V
ELT Audio Alert - Lithium CR2 3V

Re: ACK 406 MHz ELT Update
Thanks!
I'm meeting my mechanic today to hand over the package plus ask him to install a new stall horn. Hopefully he'll be able to install everything while I'm on the east coast for the next two weeks. I wonder how many hours it'll take.

Re: ACK 406 MHz ELT Update
It took me about 20 min to install the ELT and antenna during my owner assist annual. To remove the radios from the Garmin rack, unbolt the rack, hook up the GPS output and a fused power lead, reinstall and tie everything down, took the avionic tech about 4 hours.

Re: ACK 406 MHz ELT Update
I tried to have Ack 406 installed. Simple if you don't want gps but if you want gps, you have to run a dedicated power and ground to front of aircraft to a new circuit breaker. Going to wait for annual when they have interior out.
