How fast is the C-1 with the mt prop? Power setting, alt, gph?

I've been training in one and it likes to go along at 110knts at 1900rpm and 120knts at 2000rpm. 2200 rpm is around max throttle with the MT prop compared to ~2600 rpm with the sensenich propeller. I'm near sea level (home field is 200 ft MSL). This 210nm trip with 2 intermediate landings was done on just less than a half tank: https://plan.foreflight.com/s/track/5DC ... 5292806DFD

My DA-20 A1 claims it will do 109kts at 90% power but I typically get 105 kts. I found that clean wings make a big difference. Washing and waxing it will get me another 5kts.

I’m not really happy with the fuel burn. I typically get about 6 gph no matter how I fly which is way more than the books estimate of 4 gph.

How does the C1 handle in turbulence? I recall that it has a slightly stiffer wing than the A1.

This data surprises me.

My 2004 came to me with the Sensenich prop but I soon had MT prop installed.

What I remember is 2650 rpm and 130 kts at 4500' with the MT.

I could also redline the engine in level flight.

If all you can pull at full throttle is 2200 rpm something seems wrong.

It seems like your engine is lugging and not being allowed to develop its rated hp.

My C1 with MT has very similar performance as this as well. I could only get to redline maybe in a dive. I "feel" around 2200rpm it the engines happy spot - much more and it seems too much so I try to go easy on it, unless I'm meeting a deadline!

I thought something was wrong as well early not being able to get redline on takeoff on but I guess there has to be a tradeoff for grabbing more air with the MT compared to the Sensenich, maybe?

Coincidentally I made a topic on this forum about this when I first got it about 5 years ago. Someone posted this document which confirms our RPMs. See attachment.

I believe there are two different things being referenced here, static rpm and flight rpm.

I am surprised that the original prop would get to redline on take off.

"Static rpm" is what you measure when the plane is on the ground at full throttle, with no wind and with the brakes set.

This is also called a static run up and if the required rpm are not met one should consider a trip to the A+P rather than the $100 hamburger.

That is the number highlighted in the flight manual supplement.

In flight at altitude, higher numbers should be achieved.

I no longer have my DA20 C-1 but I recall that in the flight manual there is a chart showing % of rated hp and speed at various rpms and altitudes.

My experience with the plane (50 hours stock prop and 450 hours MT) and recollection of the manual suggests that an MT prop equipped 20 that is only achieving 2200 rpm in level flight may have something wrong.

It is possible that the tach is reading incorrectly or if accurate, the fuel set up could be off.
