Throttle position at idle?

Post by soarer20 »

Has anyone heard of the throttle at idle not resting on the rear stop? My A&P said the prior mechanic did not adjust the throttle cable properly, however it WAS on the rear stop and I was getting WOT full power.

I haven't flown it since he adjusted it the other day.

I have yet to check the Diamond maintance manual.

Anyone with experience on this please chime in.

This is likely in the maintenance manual but it does need an aft stop. I don't know if the system has a stop other than the plate shown. This should be an easy fix however.

On the C1's normally there is a stop on the fuel injector that you want to hit before you hit the stop in the cockpit. You should feel a little bounce when you push the throttle to the max in either direction. The stops for full throttle and for idle are located on the engine and not in the cockpit. If you are hitting the metal stop in the cockpit then there is an issue with the rigging.

AMM states "Do a throttle control Freedom of Movement Check and a throttle control Range of Movement Check." Refer to Chapter 76-00.
If necessary, adjust the throttle control.

Personally, I would focus on the RPM at idle. Whether the throttle bottoms out at the throttle quadrant or the throttle cable end point is somewhat irrelevant - so long as the idle RPM is set correctly.

If the throttle hits the stop in the cockpit you have no way of knowing if it is full travel. The throttle should hit the stop at the engine first and have bounce, usually 1/16 -1/8 before hitting the stop in the cockpit. That way the pilot knows he is getting full travel at the engine end.
