Excellent! I wish I had read the manual before pulling the cowling the last time. Anything that saves cowling removal is a win!Victor wrote:If I am not mistaken in reading schematics in AMM, exactly the same thing is accomplished by pulling BATT (70) fuse on the panel. which allows to use ground plug for charging and keeping battery topped up without extra wiring.

What is the make and model? How much does it cost and how many amps will it supply?

Re: Does anyone use a ground power source?
It is not a "ground power source" exactly but I use a Battery Tender Junior for maintaining battery condition during low-use winter season. I run the pigtail to the oil access door so cowling need not be removed for plugging in. Same one I used on a Cherokee 140 many years ago.

Re: Does anyone use a ground power source?
Since it has been a few month since I originally asked, I will post a quick update: has been using a larger CTEC unit regularly. Both to top off the battery, and run the avionics on the ground. Works like charm.
It does not however have enough power to assist in jump-starting the engine. But will revitalize the battery in a few minutes enough to crank the engine.
Replacing the battery is of course is the easiest

This model is designed specifically for 24V aircraft batteries.BlackMammoth wrote:Here is a 24 Volt Version of that Battery Tender product.ThomRiddle wrote:Same one I used on a Cherokee 140 many years ago.

My battery is 7th years old and still going strong
There is also a Concorde bulletin warning against Battery Tender for aircraft use on some batteries.
