G1000 MFD Fan Failure alert

Post by Urquhart »

Anyone had this alert? It is intermittent. Avionics guy said the G1000 reads rpm of fan and will alert below certain value. MFD screen not hot when alert pops up. Called Garmin support-zero help. I have snugged all electrical connections under copilot footwell and cycled mfd fan breaker

I had on the first flight after I bought my DA40. There is small fan,1 inch square, just behind the MFD, or PFD. It looks like a small computer fan. It’s a very quick replacement for an avionics shop. Most likely, you need a new fan. I think the bill for parts and labor was $400.0-ish but I don’t remember for sure.

Edit:
I found the original bill for this. $611.47 parts and labor. That was in 2018.

Part number 013-00102-00

And the fan has a connector near the actual part which is VERY lightly held together by its clip. It is easily dislodged/separated by just brushing against it. Take off your glare shield, and you can easily see the fan behind each display, and the connectors.
