Starr Insurance

Post by Boatguy »

I just got an insurance quote from Starr that is $700 less than my current premium from Harco, and has slightly more generous terms ($0 deductible, more flexible open pilot coverage).

Has any had good or bad experience with Starr?

Thanks, Russ

I've been with Starr all along, which is interesting since we have the same airplane and same agent. Fortunately, I have no claims experience! I've appreciated the 3 named pilots + open pilot warranty provisions of my policy. I'm in the middle of the renewal process so don't yet know what will happen to my rates.

Your increasing number of PIC hours likely has helped reduce your rates.

My quote is $3,835 on a hull value of $425K.

I'm curious if anyone has any claims experience.

What's your liability - $1M smooth or something else?

Ok, that has sub limits - an important comparison point. I'll share for reference I am with Old Republic on my 2004 with hull at 200K and $1M smooth (no passenger sub limits). That costs me approx 1500/year. I have approx 1500 DA40 hours.

I'm with Old Republic for $2M smooth. No claims. Good price (less than my car insurance at 1/10th the coverage).

Ha! More likely they don't like old pilots.
