Cindy on the Sim - Autopilot & Hand Flying… and More?

Post by waynemcc999 »

Continuing her quest for Pinch Hitter skills, my wife Cindy jumps on the home simulator to reenact a recent in-real-life flight. A bit of mock emergency help from ATC adds to the fun of managing the autopilot and a little hand flying. We fully understand that flying the sim is not the same as flying the real aircraft, but we’re into building experience in any and all ways. Do you agree? Have you and your right-seat loved ones done any basic training on a home or professional simulator? Your thoughts?
Thanks for your insight and enjoy the flight!

My wife didn't see any hands pushing buttons so she wants to know if we can get an AP that doesn't require pushing the buttons!

She was inspired and is looking forward to us getting a sim.

LOL. Well, Russ, what can I say... would indeed make the buttonology simple, if there weren't buttons :). Glad you both enjoyed it.
Here's a little Primer I put together on X-Plane:

Wayne,
Perfect timing on this video, as my wife has been asking me to teach her more and more about the use of the AP. So we both enjoyed watching your video. While we fly a six pack/KAP140 DA40 - you really provided a pinch hitter experience that is readily relatable regardless of aircraft configuration. And like Russ's wife my wife has been encouraging me to purchase a simulator for her skill development as much as my own proficiency.

I always enjoy your videos - Thank You for taking all of the time needed to create these.

Tom, very pleased the video is useful... and your kind words are much appreciated :) .
If you have any questions on sim stuff, I'll be happy to share my thoughts. It doesn't really take much of a setup... all I have is a modest iMac and a joystick. (see the Primer to X-Plane on my response to Russ).
Very best regards,
Wayne
