Nice margin for 2-3 days of work and less than €15k (retail price) parts.VCS wrote: ↑Wed May 06, 2020 3:49 pm We left the plane in Austria for a few days. The upgrade was around €30K for 2 new GIA63W's, new antenna's, cables, misc s/w and h/w items and installation. A stiff fee but it has really upgraded the usefulness of the airplane for both training WAAS approaches and doing actual flying around the EU.

Re: G1000/NXi Evolution for Diamond Owners
Since I can't modify the first post in this thread, here is the 2021 UPDATED version of the "G1000/NXi Evolution for Diamond Owners" document. It incorporates the following changes since the previous document was posted in May 2020:
1. The latest published GAMA 2020 production numbers to update the number of Diamond aircraft of each type produced.
2. Diamond's February 2021 letter to owners with details of the GDU Version 15 software upgrade for Legacy DA40 and DA42-TDI aircraft with WAAS, and G1000 NXi Phase 3 software for DA40/DA42/DA62 aircraft with NXi Version II hardware installed.
3. Corrections and revisions of specific features by GDU Version, based on many additional details learned since last year.
4. Additional speculation about G1000 NXi new features beyond what was announced in G1000 NXi Phase 3.
Comments and recommended edits are welcome and encouraged.

I'd like to commend CFIDave for this terrific document outlining the evolution of the DAI G1000. It would be nice to have a "Resources" section on the DAN website to keep a list of important documents such as this.

We can create a sticky thread or announcement which will serve the same basic purpose.VickersPilot wrote: ↑Mon Mar 01, 2021 2:48 pm I'd like to commend CFIDave for this terrific document outlining the evolution of the DAI G1000. There's also a wiki section which is intended for stuff like this but which doesn't get much attention. I can work on making it more visible and easily accessible if there's interest.

Excellent document, Dave! So much great G1000 information distilled into one document - thanks for putting that together.
Only one minor correction - GDU 12.01 (DA40 XL s/w version 0321.23) DOES support checklists. The previous version (which I believe was 0321.22 with GDU 12.00, but don't hold me to that) was where they removed the checklist feature, but then they immediately added it back. I am running GDU 12.01 and the checklists work just fine!

Re: G1000/NXi Evolution for Diamond Owners
I might add some "missing features" that are currently implemented on the Cirrus SR22/SF50 aircraft.
- Hypoxia Check / Emergency Descent Mode - automatically descends aircraft to breathable air if no button pushes in 30 minutes.
- Low Speed Protection - like Underspeed Protection but when the AP is off
- Automatic Yaw Damper Engagement / Disengagement - when passing 200ft AGL (anyone here left a YD on for landing !)
- AoA ASI Donut - the Vref donut on the airspeed indicator is a nice way of implementing this.

Re: G1000/NXi Evolution for Diamond Owners
Having just gotten my WAAS upgraded DA40-180 back I agree. I lost checklists in 321.22 and just regained them with 321.23.

Re: G1000/NXi Evolution for Diamond Owners
Interesting -- and appreciated! Two questions:
1. Do I understand correctly that there is an update -- finally? -- for the GDU to version 15 due in October 2021 that will level up the "classic" G1000?
2. Has anyone tried to upgrade from old G1000 to G1000 Nxi in a DA-40-180?
I admit that I don't see a lot of personal need for the updated functionality in either product (I use a G1000 and an iPad with the Garmin Pilot alongside a GTX-345R, etc.), but I am curious. Perhaps the user-defined holds for when ATC gives me a hold...oh wait, in 30 years I've never been given a hold I didn't ask for. But would be nice for that upcoming task-saturated moment when they do.
Seriously, though, the improved SVT is desirable.
Thanks much

Yes, the update will be released for the airframes as specified in earlier post:pietromarx wrote: ↑Thu Mar 04, 2021 8:15 am Interesting -- and appreciated! Two questions:

I'm pretty sure nobody tried it because of the cost (more than $100k was mentioned in some talks) but later on this info just disappeared so I'm not sure whether it's offered at all.pietromarx wrote: ↑Thu Mar 04, 2021 8:15 am 2. Has anyone tried to upgrade from old G1000 to G1000 Nxi in a DA-40-180?
