As scheduled, we had a good video conference call with Diamond and Garmin on Thursday. The video conference included six staff members from Diamond Canada, two from Diamond Austria and two from Garmin, as well as four owner’s representatives. We covered a lot of material but after three and half hours we still had more to discuss.

A second video conference has been scheduled for this Thursday and we will post a summary of the outcome of the two video conferences by next Saturday, April 4th.

Thank you Scott, and the whole team, for making this happen in spite of the current lockdown. I will wait anxiously for your update next weekend!

First of all many thanks to the DAN representatives.
Now looking at the Diamond response, I see again, that the DA40 TDI does not seem to exist for Diamond any more! This is also a legacy version of the DA 40, and as Diamond promised support for all legacy planes, upgrade paths for the TDI need to be part of the upgrade path table on the last page!
I know, that although >340 TDI were built until 2008, they are not widespread in the US but still in Europe! Ignoring a legacy version is not a good indication for future improved customer relation.
May I ask the DAN representatives to explicitly discuss the situation of the DA40 TDI during the next conference? As there seem to be solutions for the DA42 TDI, these solutions should also be available for the DA40 TDI.

Avionics facts of the DA40 TDI:
According to MSB D4-045/9 the latest version for TAE 127-02-09 is 10-00370-17 with GDU 5.02 (somewhen from 2005??). No WAAS no SynthericVison, no Safetaxi, no Chartview....
The software 10-00628-00 with GDU 12.03 was approved by EASA for DA40TDI produced in China. This was not certified for use in planes produced in Austria...(why???)
URBE received an EASA STC (10048316) allowing to use the 10-00628-00 in combination with GIA63W for any DA40TDI. This allowed the upgrade path to newer funtionalies but was limited to WAAS hardware upgrade.
As the 10-00628-00 was approved by EASA, and as part of the URBE STC for planes produced in Austria, it should be a minor effort to certify it for installation in Austria produced planes.
Questions to Diamond:
Why is the software 10-00628-00 not approved by Diamond for installation in planes produced in Austria? (Especially as the URBE STC allows this?)
Why will the returned GIA63W not be made available for the DA40 TDI in combination with 10-00628-00 software?
Why is the DA40 TDI not even listed in the table of upgrade options?

We should request an upgrade path to GDU 15 also for the DA40 TDI.

Thanks very much for posting the Diamond document; very helpful on many fronts. Quick follow up question for this week's call re NXi P2, as it underlies a bunch of what the company is considering re the G1000/WAAS upgrades; what jurisdictions besides Transport Canada have approved NXi P2? EASA? FAA? To the extent EASA and/or FAA (or other agencies) have not yet approved the upgrade, the corona virus situation may delay those approvals (and hence delay the ability or interest of customers to put down deposits who live in jurisdictions without that approval). Understanding this landscape and Diamond's current timeline would be beneficial.

Thanks again!

My DA40NG has had NXi Phase 2 for nine months so I'm pretty sure it's FAA approved. It's also shipping in Europe so I think EASA as well.

Diamond Canada completed Phase II NXi certification for the DA40NG (May 2019), DA62 (March 20, 2020), and DA40-180 (expected March 31, 2020 -- Diamond has restarted Lycoming DA40 production). Furthermore Diamond Austria completed Phase II NXi certification for the DA42-VI (and has been delivering it in new aircraft) more than a year ago.

So at this point, G1000 NXi Phase II is certified for installation in all new Diamond models except DA20 that doesn't use the G1000.
