Plans for a Legacy G1000 WAAS GDU/system software update are still in discussion with Garmin.
Did they provide further details on the legacy software update ? Are they seriously working on it?
Also, anything about the GFC700 upgrade?
Thanks a lot !

We're discussing with Diamond how to bring Legacy G1000s up to GDU 15 functionality (see the "G1000/NXi Evolution for Diamond Owners" paper here: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7316).
However, GDU 15 software seems to require that Legacy G1000 aircraft be WAAS-equipped with GIA63Ws that are now out of production. As has been noted, Diamond will soon be announcing new pricing to encourage NXi Phase I --> Phase II upgrades (creating a supply of trade-in GIA63Ws), as well as for installation of these used GIA63Ws into Legacy G1000s that need WAAS. However because demand for used GIA63Ws may exceed supply, other solutions are also being explored.
Unfortunately a GFC700 upgrade for aircraft with KAP140 autopilots continues to be very expensive ($70-80K) -- more than can be justified or afforded by most owners. This is because this isn't just a panel equipment upgrade, but requires extensive labor to retrofit and rig all new servos and servo mounts for pitch, roll, elevator trim -- and for Diamond twins, yaw damper servos. And Garmin GFC700 servos are intelligent devices that aren't inexpensive. So any GDU 15 software upgrade for Legacy G1000s will likely need to be compatible with KAP140 as well as GFC700 autopilots.

I just bought a 2008 DA40 XLS with WAAS, SVT, etc. Thanking God I opted for this aircraft vs a non-WAAS 2007. I talked with Diamond through my final selection process and they described the path from GIA63 to GIA63W and it scared me into paying a bit more for an aircraft already equipped.
So sorry for those 2007 and older legacy G1000 owners facing this challenge. Has any timing been discussed on a GDU 15 software approval? Many desirable features for those of us running v12.05 in 0321.23.
Hello Scott, very well put. I didn't see a request to sign the Petition, but please include me in the list from here on,

I hope, that "Legacy G1000 WAAS GDU/system software update" will also include the DA40TDI version.....
What is the draft of - the new proposed pathways and updated pricing?
Thanks!

Based on Garmin shutting down due to Ransomware attack, expect at least a couple weeks delay. They have effectively been offline for almost a week, and I would think there will be a lot of internal pressure to put emergency measures in place to prevent a repeat.
