MX Global Aero – Angel City Flyer Shop at LGB

Post by Colin »

For over a decade now my planes have been taken care of down in Long Beach. First with West Coast Maintenance and once they switched to just turbine work I moved (along with all the Angel City Flyers planes) to what became MX Global Aero. Or Global Aero MX. I could never keep track of it and it was just Angel City Shop to me.

David Seastead ran it really well. He started out a little rough and got better and better and better at it. Man he knows his Diamond airplanes. And engines. Inside and out.

They were messing with his compensation, wouldn't negotiate with him, and he just departed for Montrose, CO. (If that's near where you are with your Diamond, you have a treat coming.) A lot of the tools and parts were his (somehow, I don't pretend to know how all that works). I was just down there yesterday to get checked for my cross-the-country flight and it was like visiting a corner garage. Really good guys (Mario helped me out, there are three of them left), but things move slower and they are less certain of anything.

I'm pretty sure I've recommended the shop a bunch on here. I have to hold my approval until they find a replacement and that person gets up to speed. That's definitely not happening now.

Interesting Colin. I just ordered some parts from there last week, and it took forever to get them shipped out, and I had a tough time getting a reply from folks there. I did notice I never got an email back directly from David. Bummer.

Aw, that's sad to hear. David just finished my annual two weeks ago, and did it quickly & professionally.

I have been using Pacific Aero at KTOA (Torrance Airport) for my A&P work for the past 15 years. I have never had any negative issues working with them over that time period. You may want to give them a try if you have a gas engine powered Diamond. There prices are very reasonable also.

Don, you should suggest they send someone to Technify school because I think this is the time they'd snag new business from the shop at LGB.

Colin,
I will mention that to them. Do they have to go to factory for the training?

I don't think so, I think there are multiple places around the country that do it.

Apparently the shop in Long Beach at Angel City Flyers now has a new director of maintenance. He came over from American Aircraft and last week might have been the first time he touched a DA42.

Saturday was the first time a plane leaving MX Aero had an inflight engine failure.

Draw your own conclusions, I'll be steering clear of the shop for a bit.

Colin,

I just saw your post. What kind of a/c was it? DA40 or a twin, a diesel engine?

I was at MX Global Aero today to pick my a/c from annual (this is another story...) and found out that the engine failure was on an older model DA42 and the problem was in the clutch (oil leak or something similar).
