Maybe it's those half-dozen concussions I've had in the past, but it's taken years for the light to dawn:

For years I've owned two headsets: a Bose X and a Zulu Lightspeed. Both are ANR, of course. But instead I've personally used a Clarity Aloft because it actually did a better job of noise reduction. It has also been completely comfortable for me to wear for long periods.

Primarily because I can use Bluetooth in the Zulu to get audio alerts from Foreflight, cutting down on the number of wires I have to connect, I've gone to using the Zulu. (There are a couple of other reasons, but this was primary.) However, I still wasn't happy with the noise suppression - until a flight last week.

As usual, I had this noise coming in from the headset. Basically wind-noise-sounding. I had long attributed this problem to the fact I wear glasses when flying (though technically I don't have to). On a whim, I pressed the ear cups to my head. Voila! Noise almost totally gone. To cut to the end, it turns out that the cap I was wearing was producing a gap between the sides of my head and the ear cups, allowing this obnoxious noise to escape suppression. Removing the cap made it all-so-much-better. Of course, I need to wear some type of visor when flying in sunlight, so now begins the quest for the ideal cap/visor solution. regular baseball caps aren't the right thing. One of those golf visor deals seem to be the way to go.

Soft Nike golf visor works perfect for me. I put on the headset with the visor on, then scooch the visor up on the sides so it is no longer under the earcups. It stays in place fine and doesn't bother the ear seals.

Hmmm, I have the Bose A20 with bluetooth but its hard to get a tight fit wearing a winter tuque. You have no peaked my interest with the CLARITY ALOFT and I see that they have a Bluetooth model http://www.aircraftspruce.ca/catalog/av ... ckkey=7717.
If only I could get one to try for a day or two.

Stole my wife's (not Nike) golf visor and gave that a try today. Works great.
