Post by Antoine »

... again?

I heard from two sources that DAI as a whole is now in Chinese hands. Completely.

It was a year ago that they sold 60%, so maybe warrants or options became available. After five trips to China this year alone, I am reasonably sure that this is neutral / good for customers.

I, for one, would believe it was good if they now came up with a reasonable ADS-B solution for those of us who have a non-WAAS G1000. The "preferred" install of the GTX 345R (with WAAS) needs a software upgrade in order to display weather onscreen.

Wait: my sources say this is a FULL sale of the whole DAI group (remainder of Canada and 100% of Wiener Neustadt).
Since it is Christmas (XiMAS in Chinese IIRC) I'd like to make a wish:
Please can you have someone take a look at the DA40-180, the Cinderella of DAI and my everlasting love.
Give her a carbon fiber body, a landing gear fit for such a graceful lady, 1000 lbs useful load, 160 knots true and let her ROCK the market!

Wonder if Austro was sold too. If so, might make for an interesting dynamic between Austro and Continental (also Chinese owned).

If that is confirmed.

Now that Diamond will be whole again and that it will have access to fresh new capital, let's hope the new ownership will step up marketing, customer service and product development to bring Diamond to reach its full potential and hopefully bring its sales numbers up to Cirrus' levels.

Worst case scenario? The new ownership focusing solely on the chinese market and allowing the rest of the world markets die off.

Lets see, first Cirrus, then Mooney and now Diamond.
Not sure if this is good or bad. I guess time will tell and in the meantime I am keeping my fingers crossed.

From Flying Magazine:
While the sale puts Diamond Aircraft Industries Canada solidly under Wanfeng’s control, Diamond Aircraft Industries GmbH, as well as Austro Engine GmbH, remain under 100 percent control of Austria operations and independent of this transaction.
And from AVWeb:
A Chinese conglomerate has bought majority control of Diamond Aircraft's London, Ontario, factory, the company confirmed today. Wanfeng Aviation, a subsidiary of a larger holding company, completed a deal on Dec. 13 that conveys 60 percent of Diamond Aircraft Canada to Wanfeng. Diamond's Austria company remains unaffected by the agreement, except some production will be moved from Austria to Canada.
