+ 1 Thomas!
Cary I am really delighted to hear this. Welcome back in the air! Is this the V-tail Bo? We need pics!
Be very careful about the aircraft's condition please. These turbo engines get really hot and you want to make sure that everything is perfectly healthy. We want you around, even as a renegade!

Re: What comes after a DA40?
Cary, If you're looking at this genre of Bonanza (especially turbo-ed), you need to have demonstrated to you a stall with full flaps, gear down, and full power. I am somewhat hesitant to suggest this, but I have done this in a M35. You need to appreciate this part of the envelope. I probably don't need to tell you, but have your right foot locked and loaded.

Re: What comes after a DA40?
Thx for the advice Rich. I will certainly make sure we do this. Ever since I sent a C172 into a spin doing stall after stall (and each more uncoordinated) in 1993, I have hated doing stalls but insist on doing them in all plane types that I checkout in (18 to date).Rich wrote:Cary, If you're looking at this genre of Bonanza (especially turbo-ed), you need to have demonstrated to you a stall with full flaps, gear down, and full power. Re: What comes after a DA40?
Configuration matters: power-off clean stall in M35, totally benign, though you do need to make a positive recovery. Dirty it up fully with full throttle (and the one I flew was not turbocharged, stalled it at 8000 ft.), completely coordinated until the no-warning break is the wickedest entrance into an incipient spin I've ever experienced.carym wrote:Thx for the advice Rich. Re: What comes after a DA40?
Yeah, while the Bonanza is normally a sweet-handling airplane, but it has a real propensity to suddenly drop a wing when performing stalls. I learned this while getting my Commercial license in an A36 Bo. It's all about using your feet to pick up the wing with the rudder pedals.

Awesome. Curious what planes you had in the list as alternatives to the Bonanza?carym wrote:My cardiac issue was treated a couple of months ago and I have had no problems since so I am safe to fly again (I just got my BFR in a SR20).

Re: What comes after a DA40?
I was looking at SR20 and SR22. I also considered a Malibu but I think that the Malibu was too much of a plane at this time. I decided I no longer wanted the extra expense of a twin.TimS wrote:Awesome. Cary,
That's great news. Post pics of the Bonanza. And I hope to see you over on BeechTalk, which is the other aviation community on the web that I think is worth staying current in.

After all my Cirrus and DA42 time over the last 12 years, I am going to have to learn what those round dials in the panel are used for again
