Re: What comes after a DA40?
Amazing point of view @Steve - how did you attach it?.
I am thinking of adding a pair of go pros on both lifting points of the wings to record airflow on the fuselage.
The exhaust makes a lot of soot and must really be disrupting the airflow.
I'd like a little fairing be added to prevent this from painting the whole bottom (and gaining .02 knots of course).
Birds are a big issue on "my" island. I have had TWO strikes lately but I know someone who hit NINE birds in one event!
These seagulls are really dumb and they would simply not go away even if you taxi back and forth.
We hit one at take-off, made a precautionary landing and got MT on the phone to check the prop. All was fine. And it happened again after one month, but this time in flight.
Both times no damage apart from the real scare and awful blood spray and minced seagull parts all over the plane...
@John: yes I do wear my stripes when flying passengers into/out of an airport with security checkpoints.
Very useful in case I need to "explain my point of view" regarding a bottle of water or some make-up pot.
You would not believe the kind of "smart" people they hire to do security checks lately... (this said I must admit I like my pilot uniform )
Thank you all for watching.
I'll publish more if it's appreciated. We're having a weird spring here in Europe and it makes for some really cool videos!
Today we did two wonderful flights and we were just barely on top at FL 200. During the descent in IMC and light icing I could hear all sorts of diversion requests due to weather and we had our on board weather radar working permanently. It is very difficult to tell what you see when descending because you pick up ground AND weather...

Re: What comes after a DA40?
I have two attachment bungs - one on the top of left wingtip and one on the underside of the right horizontal stabilizer tip (photo I posted). My camera mount attaches to these. Steve

Steve: does the presence of the camera cause any perceptible unbalance (yaw?)

Re: What comes after a DA40?
I have been too busy to install an outboard camera, but here's some footage from our latest flight into Geneva.
It should also give some insight on the workflow during a high speed arrival on a busy airport.

Makes me very grateful to live in such a beautiful part of the world!

Re: What comes after a DA40?
Thanks for the video Antoine. It brought back some pleasant memories from my time working at the US Mission in Geneve. I flew an Aeroclub aircraft once out of there for a tour of the Alps. As I recall the rental rate was calculated by the minute, as I reflected on while holding above the Palais des Nations waiting to land.

Re: What comes after a DA40?
Thanks Bernie. This did not improve....
I have learnt the hard way that it is a bad idea to arrive or depart VFR from Geneva. The wait on departure is typically 10-20 minutes, you rarely can arrive without holding and on one occasion, as I was in short final, they ordered me to go around to make room for the jet that was incoming behind me!
In wintertime, non-turbine IFR aircraft (that's us...) are banned from Geneva. So you HAVE to arrive and depart VFR...
This is the only serious drawback. Apart from that it is a terrific place to hone your IFR skills. It is really very very fast moving and you learn survival skills that will make you a better guest at other international hubs...

After being grounded for 6 weeks due to UPS losing the prop governor - I ended-up buying a new one - Galatea is back in the air.
there was some interesting WX lately so we went for a ride on the wild side!
