Forgot to follow up, but after the plane was ferried back,
during my firsy flight it continued to exhibit the same behavior. New GEA71
didn't solve the problem after all. Back in the shop now, they
suspect one of two things...some sort of coupling by the 71
unit or I think they said a short in one of the transducers. All
well beyond my understanding. Jeff at Diamond tech support
has been working with Garmin and Dillon's trying to solve this.
I wouldn't hesitate to call him and run your issues by him. Very
suspect to me that your issues started right when the new battery
was installed though.
I'm ONLY losing engine monitoring though, coms and nav have been
working fine.

Re: G1000 - Red X Madness
Hi Eric
Thanks for your insight. I need to clarify one thing regarding my issues: it did not start right after the battery change, but the battery is new enough that it can't be worn out.
Regarding your issue, here a hint: some time ago I had random failures of my G1000. The culprit was very small metal debris (from careless cable shielding cutting) that had fallen inside the G1000 rack (!!)
I would sugget you investigate radically all contacts and make sure they are clean and positive. This is what I will do to start with. And I will report asap.
Safe flying

Re: G1000 - Red X Madness
Well it looks like it's finally fixed! 6 hours of test flights
and no more Xs.
Turned out to be a short in the fuel flow transducer.
Two of the wires just above the connector were twisted
and had rubbed through the sheath, causing the short.
Back to IFR training!

Re: G1000 - Red X Madness
Had that problem yesterday - X’ed out fuel quantity and temp, Voltage/Amperage and also missing annunciations.
Recycling master sometimes fixed it, but mostly not. Reseating the GEA71 behind the PFD fixed the issue.
