Amazingly, I have heard pilots still land gear up with these too!Erik wrote:Despite running your GUMPS 3 times as I promise myself. About 9 months ago I switched to a turbo Mooney. First thing I did was add a P2Audio warning system:

which is called "bitchin betty". It speaks to you in English through your headset - if you are slowed to 90IAS and manifold pressure pulled back as if beginning a landing configuration, then if gear is down it says in a deep male voice - gear is down - but if gear is up - it says in an urgent female voice and repeats - check gear - check gear - check gear. How is that for a reminder?

Re: Gear up landing DA42
Yup -its true. You no device can save a person from their own stupidity. I can say it is reassuring to hear that deep voice "Gear is Down" and to know Bitchin Betty is there ready to yell at me if need be. It also comes with an overspeed warning "Overspeed! Overspeed!" if you hit redline IAS. You hear it as part of check list at the hold short (or taxi to).Graham wrote: Amazingly, I have heard pilots still land gear up with these too!
Can this device be added to a DA42?

It would be nice, but I remind you that Diamond took away our electronic checklists with the Garmin upgrade. I really miss that electronic checklist.Erik wrote:Yup -its true. Re: Gear up landing DA42
The DA42 does a -beep-beep-beep- when at low power in the air, check gear. This may not be enough, see:

Yes, a gear horn is common in retractables of all sorts. I just felt that betty yelling at me in English "Gear! Gear!" would more likely immediately snap me to attention of the specific oversight if I were having a dummy-day, and worth the investment - like insurance.

Re: Gear up landing DA42
Cause
The accident is attributable to the fact that the aircraft had to make a landing
with the landing gear up, because the left main landing gear could not be extended.
Causal for this landing gear malfunction was the fact that the left main landing
gear was not centred in relation to the wheel well, so the tyre became lodged in
the wheel well.
The following factors contributed to the accident:
The procedure specified by the aircraft manufacturer for checking the
clearance between the wheel and the wheel well was inadequate.
The fact that a tyre was fitted to the left landing gear wheel which deviated
slightly in terms of outer diameter and cross-section from that specified by
the aircraft manufacturer.
