PRIST additive
A friend of mine is looking at buying a DA42, TDI or NG, for use in the US. Many airports serve fuel including PRIST anti-icing. Nothing in the AFM whether this is a problem or not. Anyone?

Re: PRIST additive
Aart. The Thielert Ops manual says you can use Prist with both the 1.7 and 2.0 l engine, with the AE I am not 100% sure, but the Tech's from AE say no! Hope this helps!

Re: PRIST additive
I don't have any experience with the AE engines since I have Theilerts, but at least 50% of Jet-A I buy in the US is premixed. I doubt they would build their fuel injection system to be unable to use half of the fuel available. That would be beyond stupid. You can say what you want about the AE project, but Diamond/AE are not stupid. I use Prist in my Jet-A all winter long. It isn't needed for most temps we will fly in with the DA42, but I err on the side of caution.

Re: PRIST additive
I have been told and read some emails that Austro-Engine is actively working on the approval and the Operator's Handbook will be amended. D13

Re: PRIST additive
For the DA42-NG PRIST Additive is allowed per the Austro Engine Operation Manual. Specifically, the manual states:
"OPERATION WITH ANTI-ICING FUEL ADDITIVES:
The application of the following additive is allowed for an operated engine:
PRIST Hi-Flash max. 1500 ppm Any mixture of the different types of additives is not permitted.
CAUTION: PRIST Hi-Flash anti-icing fuel additive is only allowed in operation with Jet A, Jet A-1 (ASTM D 1655) and JP-8 (F34).
If operating the engine with PRIST Hi-Flash anti-icing fuel additive, the specifications of the manufacturer must be adhered to."
