What about cutting the filter open to check for metal residues and having the oil analyzed.
Are these not required at 50 hours?
I borrowed a cutter from my FBO. Had them look at it with me as we'll. looked perfect. I bought one for auto racing from Summitt racing for next time.

I will also send my oil off next time as well.

I'll be happy to shoot a video next round. I'm gonna change a tire soon as well.

It's not hard just get someone that's done proper safety wireing and have them do it with you the first time.

Somehow I didn't expect them to carry three different filter cutters!

Mine looks like the one in pic two. Only difference is its black. Very heavy duty. Haven't used it yet but no reason it won't work perfect. It will also expand to cut a huge filter.

Hello,

Looking on this tread - I still couldn't figure out what is the torque for the oil sump screen ? what is the size of the gasket (or part number?) for the replacement.

Thanks!

An900-16 copper asbestos gasket. 36¢

Torque 135 degrees past firta contact.

This is what i was told. Another torque value was also quoted earlier in the thread if 160 inch pounds.

I just snugged mine up and safety wired it properly.

No leaks or problems in the last 10 hrs.

Also bought a torque wrench for the oil filter. Ill report how it works here on the next change i do myself.

135 seems too much for the oil sump screen (the large elephant screen) - I know that 160 is the one for the oil sump - are you sure its 135 for the sump screen?

The 135 is degrees past first contact, not a torque value.

The 135 is degrees past first contact, not a torque value.
And that value is from the Lycoming Overhaul manual.

Does anyone know what model oil filter to purchase for a regular DA40 (not DA40F)? Also, is there a specific gauge of safety wire that is required for the filter?

The filter model is 48110-1 (any brand) safety wire 031 thru 048 will work - make sure you put the safety wire on the right direction ( that will block the opening of the filter)
