Diamond’s diesel-powered DA40 NG is proving a popular choice for flight schools. In this video, AVweb’s Paul Bertorelli explains the engine’s details and gives the airplane a wring out in snowy London, Ontario.

Re: AVweb’s DA40 NG Flight Trial & Austro Engine
Until watching this video and listening to Jared's explanation, I never realized that Austro purposely programmed a dip in engine RPM when manually switching between ECU A vs. ECU B during the run-up -- as feedback to let the pilot know that ECU switching actually took place.
One minor technicality I noticed from Paul B's excellent video is that he listed the useful load for the Lycoming DA40 XLS/XLT to be too low. IIRC, it's 1200 kg/2645 lbs, which is a bit closer to the 1310kg/2888 lb useful load of the 40NG.

Isn't that as same as in CD engines?CFIDave wrote: ↑Sun Mar 29, 2020 6:31 pm Until watching this video and listening to Jared's explanation, I never realized that Austro purposely programmed a dip in engine RPM when manually switching between ECU A vs. ECU B during the run-up -- as feedback to let the pilot know that ECU switching actually took place.
