DA50 News?

Post by michaelr »

Hello Diamond Aviators! I have been following this board for the past couple of years and have enjoyed reading and learning from everyone's posts. My wife and I both received our PPL about a year ago and have been proud owners of N891US, our DA40, since that time. We recently had our third son and have starting to look at planes to accommodate our family of five. When I read about the DA50, I thought this was the plane to suit that mission. We are both new to aviation, but have already seen many planes that have been advertised as 'coming soon'. I was curious what the feeling was from the members as to the likelihood of the DA50 truly becoming a production aircraft. Thanks for any insight and again thanks for everyone's contributions to this forum.

Hello Michael, with the transfer of DA40 & DA62 type certificates to Diamond Canada, Diamond Austria is now able to concentrate their certification efforts on the DA50, I think you will see this one soon!
Best of luck with your choices, and congrats to you & your wife on the PPL!!

I'll visit factory in Austria next month and I'll test-fly DA50 so I guess I'll have some news to share.

How did the trip to the factory go? Did you get to test fly the 50? One of the dealers told me yesterday it is a 190 KIAS airplane. Would love to find out if that is true.

Unfortunately it didn't happen due to various circumstances but I still hope I'll have the opportunity to fly DA50 soon.

Any idea when Diamond plans to reveal the specs for various models and dates (or year) for delivery? Seems there is a bit of information here and there (mostly heard from Diamond by someone) but nothing official.

It's been a year since the initial launch already.

*grumble*

Looks like Diamond Aircraft just issued a press release on the DA50.

Here are the highlights:
* Switching engine to Continental CD-300 diesel engine with 300 HP
* First flight with engine was on March 22, 2019
* Looks like DA50 might switch to retractable gear
* Certification expected Summer 2020
