Thanks, Dave, agree with you as always.... I have flown to Cozumel twice (once via KEYW, once direct from Nassau) using G765 which is one of the exempted E-W airways in Cuban airspace, no permit needed. But only IFR possible in Cuban airspace, no such thing as VFR flight following (and don't even think of going unannounced, the MIGs will come after you)! The Cuban controllers are cool guys, no worries! Only if you want to cross Cuba, to fly to Caymans or Jamaica, you need the overflight permit. Relatively unburocratic, via e-mail.
Another nice oceanic training flight is Bermuda, about 600nm the shortest distance from NC. I did it from Nassau, almost 800nm, so doable with your regular 75G in a DA42.
