Filling the built-in oxygen system
Hi,
My upcoming DA62 has the built-in oxygen system. I have seen "rigs" that are built for filling in the oxygen system, but most probably I wont have the luxury in the beginning of building such thing (hangar restrictions). Now, while the plane is located at a larger airport and the service might (and most likely will) be available from some vendor in the airport, it could be super expensive to. So filling myself would be a good and economic choise.
The question is, is it possible to remove the bottle physically and get it refilled at some other shop (read: scuba shop)? I guess it does come off, but does it require maintenance or special tools etc? Any other issues with that?

Re: Filling the built-in oxygen system
I never considered trying to remove the tank from the nose of the DA62; it wasn't really designed to be portable and would probably require a mechanic to legally remove or re-install.
Instead, if you expect to use O2 enough that you're worried about the cost of refills at airports, try adding a Mountain High O2D2 pulse-demand system to the DA62's built-in system. You'll consume O2 at only 1/3 the rate, and the O2D2 automatically adjusts the amount of oxygen you breathe as the plane climbs or descends -- so you never have to play around with a needle/ball valve sight gauge on each cannula.

Re: Filling the built-in oxygen system
If you do choose to build your own fill system, the parts are inexpensive, and it is pretty easy to cobble together:

Re: Filling the built-in oxygen system
As it relates to the oxy system, we are experiencing a slow leak.. when i had the plane brought from SLC to SPI last fall, my pilot cruised at 17k and used 75 % of the o2. Since then we filled to 1800 # and it is down to 900# over 3 months of non use/ anybody else seen this ? Only 400 hours tt on this 2017 model..

Re: Filling the built-in oxygen system
After I took delivery of my new 2017 DA62, I learned that the tank wouldn't hold O2 pressure and leaked.
It was a leaky valve, but under warranty Diamond chose to replace the entire tank. Unfortunately the O2 tank manufacturer Aerox didn't have any more tanks in stock so I had to wait more than a month to get a replacement.

Re: Filling the built-in oxygen system
I have my own Oxygen and Nitrogen filling station, the latter for the tyres. Really convenient and you are then not reliant on anyone.

Where does the O2D2 fit into the factory system?CFIDave wrote: ↑Tue Mar 02, 2021 9:03 pm Instead, if you expect to use O2 enough that you're worried about the cost of refills at airports, try adding a Mountain High O2D2 pulse-demand system to the DA62's built-in system. Re: Filling the built-in oxygen system
There's an additional Mountain High pressure regulator (providing pressure step-down between the plane's internal tank and input to the O2D2). Physically the small regulator is inserted in-line on the supply hose located between a DA62 ceiling O2 outlet and the O2D2 black box; it's hanging from the ceiling.Boatguy wrote: ↑Mon May 24, 2021 6:17 amWhere does the O2D2 fit into the factory system?CFIDave wrote: ↑Tue Mar 02, 2021 9:03 pm Instead, if you expect to use O2 enough that you're worried about the cost of refills at airports, try adding a Mountain High O2D2 pulse-demand system to the DA62's built-in system.
