Does anyone know the pilot owner of the DA62 at KOWD?

And any idea if they have landed out at Katama on the Vineyard?

Can't answer your first question, but last month we landed our DA62 at the main airport KMVY on Martha's Vineyard for our first visit to the island. While there we took the bus over to Katama 1B2 airport to check it out, and met the airport manager as well as the operator of the Waco biplane giving flight seeing tours.

I would have no concern landing a Diamond twin on the longest grass runway 3700 feet at Katama -- it was in pretty good shape. You can even taxi to the a special parking lot at Katama for direct beach access. The have avgas only; no JetA.

Katama is awesome. I have landed there twice. As Dave says, there is a grass area right by the beach so you just get out, walk across the road and you are at the beach. After beach time, jump back in the plane and taxi up to the "FBO" and have a wonderful late lunch at the restaurant, which is one of the better airport restaurants I have been to.

Dave,

Did you do it? Are you saying you would?

Would you plunk a DA42 down there? There's room to turn around in the parking around?

I love that airport.

I didn't have the time to move my plane from KMVY where it was already parked, but I would not hesitate to "plunk a DA42 down there" at Katama airport. From inspection of the runway and parking area on the ground, as well as with watching many other GA planes land and takeoff there on the grass, I'd definitely consider landing there next time we fly to Marthas Vineyard. The only catch is they have avgas only -- you'll have to go to KMVY if you need JetA.

Let me know when you are next headed up. I'd love to do it and I am nervous about doing it on my own or as the first reported DA42 landing there.
