Hi!

I was told that the upgrade path from the legacy G1000 to the Nxi is only theoretically existing and that it is not a realistic option.
Not true: Here's Diamond's Service Bulletin that describes the upgrade:
http://support.diamond-air.at/fileadmin ... pgrade.pdf

I know of at least one aircraft that had the upgrade performed already, and Diamond Canada is currently selling a used DA62 with Legacy G1000 that can optionally be upgraded by Diamond to G1000 NXi for an extra $100K. (Send me a PM if you want details.)

Good to know! Either it was incorrect or it was an EASA issue since I needed a german D-I* Registration.

Scott,

I thoroughly enjoyed meeting you last week and getting in some flights in your magnificent new ride. Some posts I've made over the years that might help get you settled into the new platform:

After you get your JetShades and Stratus 3, you might want to fabricate a mount (easy to do) to optimize the value of both:
https://diamondaviators.net/forum/viewt ... 454#p77454

Just so you feel even better about your purchase, your aircraft is at the top of the piston twin market price/performance wise by a pretty wide margin, and the next step up twin is nearly an order of magnitude more costly at not that much of a payload/perfomance increase.
https://diamondaviators.net/forum/viewt ... 069#p76069

If you have ground mounted tracks for hangar door wheels, this might help:
https://diamondaviators.net/forum/viewt ... 423#p69423

While this post shows why the DA42-VI kicks the Baron G58's ass at distances beyond 390 nm, it also shows the DA62's absolute dominance in the piston twin category - a 300+lb advantage from mile 1:
https://diamondaviators.net/forum/viewt ... 018#p68018

Best value in a battery powered electric tug is the SideWinder from Redline Aviation:
https://diamondaviators.net/forum/viewt ... 987#p64987

I think I already gave you a contact for reasonably priced deice fluid, but here it is again with links to a cart to haul and dispense it. Get the 55 gallon drum:
https://diamondaviators.net/forum/viewt ... 221#p67221

Flying high means not only crazy efficiency, but far less wear and tear on your engines and gearboxes. Oxygen is the key, and it is quite inexpensive to fabricate your own cascade fill system if you are willing to put in an afternoon or two of work:
https://diamondaviators.net/forum/viewt ... 395#p65395

Just a convenience thing, but I find that inflating the tires with nitrogen instead of air means that I generally fill the tires every three months instead of every month:

A very nice summary Rob.

I also have nitrogen in my DA62 tyres and find this far better than just air.

Indeed it can be now the SB is released. We have done one in our shop and and it is somewhat invasive but doable.

Hello All, New to the forum. Similar to Mike in experience, I am placing a deposit on a new DA62 and taking Emir's approach of buy your last plane first. I've been training in a Cirrus but ultimately need the utility of the larger plane so going all in on a 62. I have some time a few years back in a 172 and my father's 182 but only 60 hours and roughly 20 hours so far in the Cirrus. I took a demo flight in the 62 and loved the simplicity of the airplane (especially for a twin), easy to take off, fly, and land and the workload was less than the Cirrus. I want to do the balance of my training in the 62 when it arrives but insurance is going to be the hurdle. Any advice would be appreciated.

Brett,

I'd find a CFII that was willing to do some intensive training and find an insurance company that was willing to give you a discount once you reached a certain number of hours with the mentor pilot. Sort of like a jet or turbo prop. But it is going to be steep. I've read a dozen stories now about aviation insurance rates hitting a steep cliff and bumping 10% even on pilots who have never had a claim.

It might be hard to find a CFII that is current and rated in the DA62. You're not too far from CFI Dave...
